Welcome to the SUD Resource Hub

Your journey to improving outcomes for patients and families affected by substance use disorders (SUD) during pregnancy and postpartum starts here.

Substance use disorder is a treatable condition that affects the brain and behavior, making it difficult to control substance use, whether it involves alcohol, medications, or other drugs. The severity of SUD varies, with addiction being its most extreme form—but with the right support, recovery is possible.

At MoMMAs Voices, we believe in the power of lived experience. This SUD Resource Hub was codesigned with women and families who have faced the challenges of substance use firsthand. Their courage in sharing their stories helps shape better care, ensuring that every voice matters in the journey toward healing and recovery.

Below, you’ll find real patient and family experiences that offer insights and guidance for providing compassionate, effective care to those navigating SUD during pregnancy and postpartum.

Hear from Real Patient Voices

The MoMMAs Voices SUD Resource Hub came directly from patients and their family members who had experienced substance use disorder during pregnancy and the postpartum period. We amplify these voices to improve care outcomes.

"Patients are people. Providers should treat each patient like they would want their parent or child to be treated."

"I felt like a project to be finished up, rather than a woman giving birth. I had to fight to get my golden hour to bond with my baby."

Family-Centered Excellence Award

The Family-Centered Excellence Award recognizes Perinatal Quality Collaboratives (PQCs) that demonstrate outstanding commitment to partnering with patient and family advocates in improving care for individuals affected by substance use disorder (SUD) during pregnancy and postpartum.

This distinction is awarded to PQCs that actively engage MoMMAs Voices-trained patient family partners, integrate lived experiences into quality improvement efforts, and implement meaningful strategies that enhance maternal health outcomes. Recipients of this award exemplify collaborative, compassionate, and patient-centered approaches that drive systemic change in perinatal care.

By achieving the Family-Centered Excellence Award, PQCs affirm their dedication to inclusive, respectful, and impactful partnerships—ensuring that the voices of those with lived experience are not just heard, but truly valued in the pursuit of better maternal health outcomes.
